Introduction to School of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering

The School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering is one of the earliest schools since the founding of Shandong Jianzhu University in 1956. The school has two undergraduate disciplines, mechanical engineering & automation and vehicle engineering. The former is a pilot discipline for cultivation of Outstanding Engineers of the Ministry of Education and a Shandong provincial brand discipline. The school owns a Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory of Universities and offers master's degree and engineering master development in mechanical engineering. The discipline of mechanical and electrical engineering was recognized as a Key Major in Shandong Province and the mechanical basics experimental teaching center is a Shandong provincial experimental teaching demonstration center.

The school has 90 staff, including 17 professors, 41 associate professors, 31 lecturers, and six part-time doctoral supervisors. Among them, 29 have doctor's degree and 72.2% have doctoral or master's degree. The faculty also includes a well-recognized overseas professor of Taishan Scholar, one State Council Expert for Special Allowance, three Shandong famous technical experts, and three school-level outstanding talents.

In recent years, supported by the Program of Building Featured and Advantageous Discipline Laboratory Jointly by the Central Government and Local Government, the Program of Building Backbone Discipline Laboratory Center in Higher Learning Institutions of Shandong, Support for Distinguished Overseas Professors of Taishan Scholars of Shandong, the school has developed a number of unique disciplines and teams in control of electromechanical system and automation, detection of precision machinery and electrical and mechanical equipment performance analysis, integrated manufacturing technology and dynamic simulation of process machinery, and systematic integration of innovative approaches. The school has built a laboratory of 5650 m2, owning many advanced equipment of about 14.47 million yuan, such as three coordinate measuring machines (from the U.S.), electron optical schlieren device (from Japan).

In recent five years, the school has undertaken two sub-programs under the National Key Special Technical Program, two international cooperation programs, 11 programs sponsored by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and 41 ministerial and provincial programs. The funds for these programs have reached 17.4 million yuan, of which 13 million is provided by government. The school has published 80 papers included by SCI or EI and more than 20 inventions are patented. The school has won several awards including two first prizes of Shandong Province Science and Technology Progress Award, one third prize of Shandong Province Natural Science Award and seven third prizes of Shandong Province Science and Technology Progress Award. The school has strengthened cooperation with governments and enterprises and commercialization of its research results. Achievements in this regard include parade float design for the 60th National Day, the online Shandong experience booth for the Shanghai World Expo, and research and development of high-speed ball screw.

The school has always been attaching much importance to inspiring students' innovative ability and ability of practice. In recent three years, students of the school have won more than 40 first prizes and 50 second prizes in the Shandong Robot Contest, Mechanical and Electrical Innovative Design Contest, and Challenge Cup Contest. They have won more than 500 national patents. Their innovations have been covered by a number of media including CCTV and China Education Daily. In recent seven years, graduates from the school have an employment rate above 99%, and as a result the school has been honored as a model organization for promoting employment of graduates for seven consecutive years.
