    The School of Architecture and Urban Planning (SAU) of Shandong Jianzhu University has three disciplines—architecture, urban planning and landscape architecture with a staff of 124 and an enrollment of more than 1,600 full-time students. There are full-time undergraduate programs and postgraduate programs on 10 research topics under all three disciplines. The School also offers doctorial research programs within four domains, which are Green Building Theories and Technological System, Green Building Theories and Methods, Green Ecological Urban Planning Theories and Methods, Green Rural Planning Theories and Methods.

   The undergraduate education history of SAU can be traced back to 1959 when the two disciplines—architecture and urban planning—were introduced by Professor Wu Zi’ang and Professor Fang Yuncheng. As the founder of SAU, Professor Wu was a graduate of Columbia University and one of China’s first generation of modern architects.As the principal teacher at that time, Professor Fang was one of China’s first generation of experts engaged in urban planning. In 1985,the Department of Architecture was established, being renamed SAU in 2004. In 2008, the major of landscape architecture was inaugurated. The enrolment of master degree candidates and doctoral degree candidates was started in 2000 and 2013, respectively. In 2000 and 2004, the majors of undergraduate education of architecture and urban planning respectively passed the national professional education evaluation. In 2012, they passed the national professional education evaluation of master degree education. In 2016,the discipline of Architecture was listed as First-Rating Discipline of Shandong Province. The discipline of Urban Planning was accredited as High-level Practical Professional Project of Shandong Province.
   About six decades, thanks to the efforts made by following generations of staff, SAU has secured fruitful achievements in the fields of professional training,scientific research and social service. As a result, SAU now is the most important base in Shandong Province for training the talents engaged in architecture and urban planning. More than 4,500 excellent professional talents trained by SAU have become important members in the architectural field across Shandong Province and even nationwide.
